Elegant Liquid Simulation with X-Particles

Personal project, 2024 – simulated with X-Particles, rendered with Octane Render in Cinema 4D.

About the project

This personal project from 2024 revolves around a single question: how do you get a liquid out of X-Particles that is not only physically plausible but also looks elegant? It shows a golden stream of liquid winding through a dark space, breaking up and dissolving into fine droplets.

The challenge lay less in the simulation itself than in the overall impression. A high-end look only emerges when motion, surface and light work together – and that interplay is exactly what I wanted to explore with a C4D-native tool.

Technique

The liquid was simulated with the X-Particles fluid system directly in Cinema 4D. A lot of work went into tuning the simulation: the stream had to flow in a cohesive, controlled way while still breaking up into splashes and droplets in the right places.

Rendering was done with Octane Render. A warm, golden material, carefully placed highlights against a dark background and a shallow depth of field create the elegant look familiar from spirits or cosmetics advertising.
