Chocolate Ice Cream – Thick Chocolate with X-Particles NeXus
Personal project, 2023 – simulated with X-Particles NeXus in Cinema 4D, rendered with Octane Render.
About the project
This personal project from 2023 shows an ice cream bar from above, against a swirl of chocolate. Thick chocolate wells up onto the ice cream, slowly spreads across it and builds up into a dense, bulging layer.
The focus was on the behaviour of a very viscous liquid: rather than simply running off, it pushes sluggishly across the surface, piles up and folds over itself.
Technique
The simulation was done with NeXus, the GPU-based solver of X-Particles in Cinema 4D. A high viscosity keeps the chocolate thick so that it holds its shape instead of running like water.
The particles were meshed into a closed surface and rendered with Octane Render. Highlights on the chocolate and the dark swirl in the background give the clip its look.
