Crumbling Bust – Destruction with X-Particles
Personal project, 2023 – simulated with X-Particles in Cinema 4D, rendered with Octane Render.
About the project
This personal project from 2023 is a destruction simulation. A classical stone bust stands on a pedestal in front of an arched window in warm, raking light. From the bottom up, it begins to crumble – into fine dust, small particles and larger fragments – until only a pile of rubble remains on the pedestal.
The clip alternates between the calm wide shot and close-ups in which the dust cloud and the individual fragments fill the frame.
Technique
The disintegration was created with X-Particles in Cinema 4D. The bust was broken into fragments that come loose one after another, while dust and fine particles are emitted at the same time, accompanying the motion of the fragments.
Rendering was done with Octane Render. The sunlight falling at an angle through the window models the bust and the dust and gives the scene its warm, calm mood.
