Pepsi Spec Ad – Breakdown with X-Particles

Personal project, 2024 – simulated with X-Particles in Cinema 4D, meshed in Houdini, rendered with Octane Render.

About the project

This personal project from 2024 is a spec ad for Pepsi Zero Sugar, presented as a breakdown. A cola splash wraps around a can – and the film shows not just the result but how it was made: particle setup, meshed surface and final render play in sync, stacked on top of each other.

The project is the counterpart to the Pepsi spec ad with Houdini FLIP: the same subject, this time created with X-Particles in Cinema 4D.

Technique

The liquid was simulated with X-Particles in Cinema 4D and saved as a .bgeo cache. I loaded the cache into Houdini, meshed the particles into a closed surface there and exported it as Alembic to bring it back into Cinema 4D.

For the final render in Octane, bubbles were additionally instanced from the X-Particles particles, giving the cola its typical carbonated look. The screen recordings in the breakdown show the settings directly in the software.
