Astronaut in Whitewater – Houdini Test
Personal project, 2025 – simulated with Houdini, rendered with Octane Render in Cinema 4D, compositing in After Effects.
About the project
This personal project from 2025 is a whitewater test with Houdini. An astronaut runs through churning water; every step tears open the surface and kicks up splashes, spray and foam.
The clip builds on my whitewater simulation with the alien – this time with a running figure and two perspectives: from above and from the side at water level.
Technique
The simulation was done with FLIP Fluids in Houdini, with the animated astronaut acting as a collision object. Whitewater – foam, spray and bubbles – was then derived from the base simulation as a separate particle simulation.
Everything was assembled, shaded and lit in Cinema 4D and rendered with Octane Render. The final compositing was done in After Effects.
