Ehrmann Spec Ad – Blueberries in a Splash

Personal project, 2025 – simulated with Houdini FLIP, rendered with Octane Render in Cinema 4D, compositing in After Effects.

About the project

This personal project from 2025 is a spec ad for the dairy brand Ehrmann – created without a brief to show how a product world of fruit and milk can look as a CGI splash. A blueberry flies through a creamy liquid that opens like a funnel around the berry, tears into a web-like pattern and finally breaks up into fine strands and droplets among many more berries.

The film is deliberately short and focused on a single moment, as is typical for social media formats. The dark, cool background makes the white of the liquid and the matte blue of the berries stand out clearly.

Technique

The liquid was simulated with Houdini's FLIP solver, with the blueberries acting as collision objects. The most demanding moment is when the thin sheet of liquid tears open: for the typical web of holes and strands to form, rather than the surface simply disappearing, the simulation needs sufficiently high resolution and carefully tuned surface tension.

Simulation, berries and lighting were assembled in Cinema 4D and rendered with Octane Render. Compositing, colour grading and adding the logo were done in After Effects.
