LAB SERIES – Water Splash for a Cleanser
Client work for LAB SERIES, 2025 – liquid simulation with LiquiGen and Houdini, rendered with Octane Render in Cinema 4D, compositing in After Effects.
About the project
This client project from 2025 was created for LAB SERIES, a men's skincare brand. It centres on the Anti-Age Maxi LS Cleanser: the tube stands on a checkered tile floor, then clear water shoots up around it, envelops the product and opens into a splash crown at the top.
At just under three seconds, the clip is extremely short. The motion therefore has to read instantly: the water should convey freshness and cleansing without permanently obscuring the product and its label.
Technique
The liquid simulation was created with LiquiGen and Houdini. LiquiGen by JangaFX simulates liquids in near real time, which makes it well suited for quickly exploring the shape and timing of a splash. Houdini offers full control for further processing of the simulation.
Simulation, product and environment were assembled in Cinema 4D and rendered with Octane Render, where the refraction in the clear water against the dark tube defines the look. Compositing and colour grading were done in After Effects.
