Liquid animation with X-Particles
Personal project, 2025 – simulated with X-Particles, rendered with Octane Render in Cinema 4D.
About the project
This personal project from 2025 was a focused test of Insydium's X-Particles plugin. The challenge: to create a visually appealing liquid animation entirely inside Cinema 4D, without relying on an external simulation cache from Houdini.
The project explored how close a C4D-native tool can get to the behavior and look of a real liquid – from surface tension to how it splashes and merges on impact.
Technique
The simulation was built entirely with X-Particles in Cinema 4D: the plugin's fluid system computed the particle motion, and the surface was meshed directly with X-Particles' OpenVDB Mesher. Lighting, materials and rendering were handled with Octane Render.
Because simulation and rendering live in the same scene, timing, camera work and shading could be refined iteratively without any caching detour – a more direct workflow than the Alembic export path.
